Friday Night Bites

Friday dinner. Fresh Bay Gimlets over FaceTime with dear friends left us less than motivated to cook, but that was just fine with us. I had roasted some peppers earlier in the day and left them to marinate with wine vinegar, good olive oil and slivers of green garlic. The cheese-and-cold-cut drawer yielded some nice Italian mortadella, salami and prosciutto. On the shelf above it, half a jar of Imam Bayildi (“The Imam Fainted”) eggplant spread… our latest obsession. I boiled a few eggs and did an Italian riff on devilled uovi with some Calabrian chilli oil and a shred of basil on top. Broke several shards off of a chunk of Grana Padano and anointed them with old, syrupy balsamic vinegar. Some store bought crostini, Niçoise olives, a few radishes, and a god-awful can of mussels escabeche from Patagonia Provisions rounded things out.

Beneath our feet as we ate, Frida quietly shredded the mat from her bed. Happy weekend, everyone!

Frida was framed, I tell you, framed.

The Patagonia mussels were a hate crime against foodies.

That’s a lot of food for two people!

Some of it went back into the fridge. When you’re serving antipasti, it’s visually pleasant (and polite) to have an abundance of each dish on the table.
